Every month Workforce Planning Hamilton emails The Workforce Check-up survey to local employers with the goal of creating a monthly snapshot of labour market activity in Hamilton. We ask if employers are hiring, laying off and what jobs are being created, or lost in the community.
This month Workforce Planning Hamilton asked employers if their company has experienced any difficulty filling jobs over the last year. Twenty percent of the 63 respondents reported having difficulty filling job vacancies, most commonly due to the lack of available applicants.
The top reasons that employers could not find applicants included: Lack of available applicants; applicants looking for more pay than offered; lack of “hard” skills; lack of applicants’ willingness to accept nature of work; lack of experience; lack of knowledge of business or formal qualifications and lack of “soft” skills or interpersonal/communication skills.
