HAMILTON, ON  – Workforce Planning Hamilton wants to hear from small, medium and large sized Hamilton based businesses this month.

Hamilton’s labour market is in flux with the rise of precarious employment, and short-term, contract and low-paid work that will not sustain families.  Conversely, there is an increase in the demand for skilled occupations in many industries in Hamilton.

Employers shared with Workforce Planning Hamilton in last year’s EmployerOne Survey that there is a lack of qualified applications for all levels of employment.

Taking 15 minutes to complete the annual EmployerOne Survey allows employers to provide crucial labour market information to help job seekers and those new to the labour market discover where jobs are available, and what skills are in demand.

By sharing their employment hiring needs, challenges, and plans for the future employers will be helping Workforce Planning Hamilton to pinpoint industry trends and report back on the status of the local labour market.  It is truly win/win, as employers will have a better educated workforce and less turnover of staff.

Partners on the project include City of Hamilton, Economic Development Department, McMaster University, Mohawk College, Employment Ontario Employment Service Providers, Hamilton Wentworth District School Board, Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board, Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, and others.

Keanin Loomis, President and CEO of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce urges local employers to  complete EmployerOne. As he explains, "We are increasingly in a data-driven world, which is why I make sure to fill out every survey in which I'm interested to learn the results. If employers take just a few moments to answer this important survey, we will have rich local labour market insights that will help us determine what steps we can take to further enhance the Hamilton economy."

Workforce Planning Hamilton is a provincially funded organization that carries out workforce development research and projects to build a strong, local workforce. The EmployerOne survey is funded through the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development.
