Hamilton’s future workforce: What types of jobs will require the most new workers?

Recent studies show that from now to 2016 the highest number of new workers will be needed in the following ten types of jobs.  Many of those jobs match the areas highlighted by City of Hamilton’s Economic Development Strategy.

Here are the 10 Growth Occupations: Now to 2016 (City of Hamilton)

Entry level sales and service
Now to 2016 new workers required: 5,700

Clerical
Now to 2016 new workers required: 5,300

Intermediate sales and service
Now to 2016 new workers required: 5,200

Professional occupations in health
Now to 2016 new workers required: 4,800

Professional occupations in social science, education, government services and religion
Now to 2016 new workers required: 4,700

Middle and other management
Now to 2016 new workers required: 4,100

Skilled administrative and business
Now to 2016 new workers required: 4,000

Skilled sales and service
Now to 2016 new workers required: 3,000

Intermediate occupations in transport, equipment operation, installation and maintenance
Now to 2016 new workers required: 2,200

Assisting occupations in support of health services
Now to 2016 new workers required: 2,000
